2026 Honda Passport vs 2025 Toyota 4Runner in Tewksbury, MA

Going on off-road adventures is not something so easily accomplished, making it all the more impressive that the 2026 Honda Passport proves itself to be an adept rider of the paths less taken. To highlight this, we’re eager to show you how it compares to the competition, the 2025 Toyota 4Runner! Afterward, consider a visit to Atamian Honda for an in-person inspection of this midsize SUV.

Engineering

Intensity will follow your every footstep, but more so in the Honda Passport thanks to the standard 3.5L V6 engine supplying 285 horsepower1. The Toyota 4Runner’s standard powertrain, the 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder motor, cannot match with its 278 horsepower. More versatility can be found within the Passport as well, since it boasts standard Normal, Econ, Sport, Snow, Tow, Trail, and Sand drive modes. Once again, the 4Runner fails to keep up, as it lags behind with standard Eco, Normal, Sport, and Haul2 settings. The Toyota model has also been equipped with a standard FWD system, which does not match the Honda’s ability to maintain traction through the standard 2nd-Gen Intelligent Variable Torque Management™ system. You may also find that the transitions in velocity on the Passport’s standard 10-speed automatic transmission to be smoother than the 4Runner’s 8-speed variant.

Exterior

The outer accommodations of the 2026 Honda Passport will prove themselves to be important for your everyday travels. This includes a standard acoustic windshield, which reduces incoming noise from the outside. This same windshield also is bolstered with a heating feature, so you won’t have to worry about configuration of the HVAC system to melt away moisture on a chilly day in Tewksbury. These are both features the Toyota 4Runner lacks. But if you need access to the cargo area and you’re already carrying something, you’ll thank yourself for springing for the optional hands-free liftgate, which is found on both models. Similarly, the side-view mirrors will stay clear thanks to the standard heating feature on each SUV.

Advancements

Innovation should be at the core of the design philosophy for a factory-fresh car, and the Honda Passport understands this. That’s why you can find a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen display, giving you plenty of space to swipe on. Once again, the 4Runner cannot keep up, as its standard 8-inch variant is a bit more limiting. However, you will have the chance to make use of the standard 8-speaker sound system for your listening pleasure as you coast along Route 3. Unfortunately, this does not provide the same echoing quality the Passport’s standard 9-speaker configuration with a subwoofer provides. Alexa Built-in3 is also standard on the Honda, and missing on the Toyota. This means you can speak your desired commands in the former, but not the latter. Following a similar theme is the standard Wi-Fi4 hotspot in the Passport, giving you quick access to the internet, while the 4Runner cannot without springing for a higher trim level. Now that you know how the Honda Passport reigns supreme, it’s time to take it for a test drive at our location!
